Manager Accounting
Boston, US
About the role
We are looking for an Accounting Manager to own the accounts receivable function and the day-to-day integrity of our general ledger across our U.S. and Canadian operations. This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and closing the books, while also improving the processes and controls behind them.
You will work closely with sales, operations, and customer service teams, and coordinate regularly with our parent company's finance group.
Your seat to fill:
Accounts receivable
- Own the full AR cycle: invoicing, cash application, collections, credit review, and customer account maintenance.
- Manage retailer deductions, chargebacks, and short pays; research root causes and partner with sales and operations to resolve and prevent them.
- Monitor AR aging and DSO, escalate at-risk accounts, and recommend credit holds or payment plans.
- Maintain the allowance for doubtful accounts and supporting analysis.
Journal entries and general ledger
- Prepare and review journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, reserves, reclasses, and recurring entries, with clear supporting documentation.
- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close for assigned areas; maintain and enforce the close calendar.
- Perform and review balance sheet account reconciliations; investigate and clear reconciling items on a timely basis.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure transactions are coded consistently and correctly.
- Prepare flux and variance analysis for management review.
Canada
- Support accounting and reporting for the Canadian entity.
- Coordinate GST/HST, QST, and provincial sales tax filings with internal and external partners.
- Manage cross-border intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and settlements.
- Apply Canadian customer terms, remittance practices, and collections norms to the AR portfolio.
Reporting, audit, and controls
- Support the group reporting package and requests from the parent company finance team.
- Serve as a primary contact for external auditors and tax advisors; prepare schedules and pull support.
- Document and strengthen internal controls, close procedures, and desktop process documentation.
Team and systems
- Supervise and develop 1 direct report across AR and general accounting.
- Drive automation and efficiency in the ERP and adjacent finance systems; participate in system enhancements and testing.
Your stroll to CYBEX:
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including month-end close ownership.
- Demonstrated depth in accounts receivable, collections, and deduction or chargeback management.
- Strong command of journal entry preparation, account reconciliation, and general ledger structure under U.S. GAAP.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, large data sets).
- Hands-on ERP experience SAP preferred, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar.
- Clear, direct communication with non-finance stakeholders.
Preferred
- CPA or CPA candidate.
- Experience in consumer products, wholesale, or retail distribution, with exposure to big-box retailer billing and deduction practices.
- Experience within a multinational group, including intercompany accounting and reporting to a foreign parent.
- Prior supervisory or mentoring experience.
What success looks like in year one
- Close is completed on schedule with fewer post-close adjustments.
- AR aging and DSO trend down, with a defensible reserve and a clear escalation path on aged accounts.
- Deduction backlog is worked down and root causes are documented and addressed at the source.
- Reconciliations are current, supported, and review-ready for auditors.
