Lead Product Engineer


The Cybex Lead Product Engineer is responsible to develop new juvenile car seats to product requirements and to provide functional input for new product development with the ultimate goal of growing the business. The Lead Product Engineer will work with product marketing to define customer requirements. The Lead Product Engineer will identify and implement product design, material, and process to meet product requirements. In addition to new product design, the Lead Product Engineer is responsible to identify suitable strategies for product improvements and cost reductions. The Lead Product Engineer is responsible to stay current with new market needs through interaction with product marketing.


Your areas of responsibilities: 

  • Lead internal project team which consists of engineering, soft goods engineering, testing and validation, advanced engineering and external engineering support.
  • Create technical specifications from Product Management requirements. Assist with benchmarking of competitive products as part of the technical specification creation.
  • Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for designs of new products. Alternatively, work with external resources responsible for the day-to-day design work of new products.
  • Designing products to achieve cost targets and assembly time constraints.
  • Support the product launch plan(s); ensure that all the requirements are met.
  • Provide support to the Head of Engineering on various engineering projects/programs.
  • Coordinate activities between the project team and the manufacturing site while ensuring feasibility.
  • Update management on a regular basis on project status. Identify what is falling behind and what assistance is needed from management to achieve project deliverables.
  • Travel to regulatory testing laboratories to oversee program testing (in US and Canada).
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities (in US and overseas) to evaluate products and potential production concerns.
  • Evaluate Regulatory requirements and coordinate test requirements / specifications with compliance and Quality Assurance.
  • Responsible for sustainability of current products including problem resolution and corrective action as required to resolve issues.
  • Create Bills of Materials (BOM).
  • Stay up to date on regulations regarding juvenile car seats.

Your profile of qualification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 5-8 years of experience.
  • Experience leading technical teams on new product development projects.
  • Mechanical Engineering aptitude
  • Mechanism Design
  • Plastic engineering and injection molding
  • Hands on prototyping and product development troubleshooting
  • Computer skills
  • 3D modeling (Creo Preferred) with a minimum of 3 years of CAD experience.
  • MS Office Suite
  • Demonstrated Experience designing for Manufacturability and Assembly
  • Consumer products experience
  • Excellent Verbal and Written Communication Skills
  • Experience with regulated environment – including UL, FDA, NHTSA and CPSIA.
  • Juvenile industry experience
  • Knowledge of Metals engineering and processes.
  • Finite Element Analysis
  • Project Management Skills – assist project management to achieve project plans and meet key milestones on time.
